Church of the Holy Spirit Statement of Full Inclusiveness, 4/13/08
We, the worshipping community of Church of the Holy Spirit, Charlestown, RI believe in God and God's love for us and for all people. Jesus Christ said: '"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.'"
We affirm that all people are children of God. We honor and warmly welcome everyone and we are committed to being an inclusive church that embraces the rich diversity of God's creation. We recognize, celebrate and give thanks for the many gifts of God's children. We encourage those of every race, gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic circumstance, marital status and physical or developmental ability to join fully in the life and ministry of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
We acknowledge that Christian churches have not always welcomed all people. As a fully inclusive church within the Episcopal church, we accept the responsibility to work individually and collectively against all forms of discrimination, to continue our efforts toward inclusiveness and to celebrate all relationships founded on the principles of God's love, compassion and faithfulness.
