Godly play is a multi-sensory experience during which children do not only listen, but they touch, feel, and enter the Bible stories (parables and lessons) while playing with the sacred objects made from wood, fabric, and wicker. Each story comes alive for the children, helping them to find meaning in their won experiences at home, at school, and in the world.

The time spent in Godly Play follows the fundamental structure of Christian worship. It is a form that has served the Church well for centuries: getting ready, listening to the word of God, responding to God's word, giving thanks, sharing the feast, and participating in the blessing and dismissal, which is a common pattern of worship among Christian denominations.

A series of Godly Play lessons about worship and traditions of the Church help to integrate children more fully into ways of faith. Baptism, Communion, and holidays of the church year, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost as well as the career of Paul and the early Church are presented in Godly Play in ways that give children a vocabulary and a reference for participating meaningfully in congregational worship.

"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs." -Mark 10:14
